Slimming World: Week 1


Towards the end of last year I was pretty much eating myself into a sad state day after day, and felt enough was enough. I had put back on the two stone I lost the previous year, and was feeling so low that my self esteem was pretty much none existent. 2017 is the year that is all going to change. I signed up for Slimming World online on January 1st, meaning today was my weigh in day after one week on plan. I'm not going to lie I have been on and off the scales through the week, because frankly i'm just a little impatient however when I did my 'official' weigh in this morning I had lost 5lbs, which I am pretty damn proud of. As a major chocoholic I decided to try and cut it out this week and try going cold turkey, I had the odd options hot chocolate here and there to help with the cravings but other than that I didn't touch a piece of it *pats self on back*. 

The Diet Plan

Breakfast
 As i'm working Monday to Friday I pretty much stick to the same breakfasts throughout the week which are either:
1) Quaker Oats Porridge with skimmed milk;
2) 2 Weetabix with skimmed milk;
3) Overnight oats with strawberries and grapes.

Lunch 
Again my lunches tend to be the same, to be honest I'm quite a fussy eater so i'm defintely still in the process of finding slimming world friendly lunches to have. This weeks lunches consisted of: 

1) Pasta with ham, red peppers, red onions and tomatoes mixed with a teaspoon of light salad cream. 
2) A sandwich thin with ham, red onion, tomatoes and a dairylea cheese slice
3) Scrambled egg, spaghetti hoops and bacon

Dinner
 I definitely feel as though dinner's are the one meal of the day where I can throw myself into learning how to cook (yep, i'm still a newbie to the whole cooking thing!) so slimming world is actually encouraging me to learn to cook too. I made four meals from scratch this week which were:

1) Slimming World chips with a slimming world burger on a sandwich thin, and salad;
2) Meatballs made with pasata, garlic and chilli with dried pasta; 
3) Chicken breasts with broccoli and cauliflower;
4) Steak with slimming world chips and peas. 

 I did also try some of the slimming world range from Iceland. I have to say i'm not really much of a fan. I tried out the chip shop curry, the singapore noodles and the chicken tikka masala each of which got a thumbs down from me. However, I have tried the slimming world syn free meatballs in the past and absolutely loved them, so I will definitely be picking those up again in the future.

Syns
Slimming World suggests having 5-15 syns a day, which I'm proud to say I kept within - I pretty much limited my syns this week to just options white hot chocolates (2 syns), light salad cream (0.5 syns for a tablespoon) and the odd extra dairylea light triangle (1.5 syns) to try and get into the mind frame of not stuffing my face with galaxy every two seconds, which does seem to have worked so for week two I will be introducing a bit of chocolate back into my diet.


Overall I have felt pretty happy with my food intake this week, anytime I did feel hungry I just ate an apple or a banana, or even some ham. To be honest slimming world doesn't even feel like that much a of diet with the amount of food you can actually eat, so if you struggle with dieting or just want a healthier lifestyle i'd definitely recommend giving it a go!
