My experience of blogging with a full time job

I've been an on and off blogger for about four years now, which is a little crazy come to think about it. I've been a student, worked part time, worked full time, moved out and voilà here I am sitting here writing this post. I'm not going to lie, keeping up with it all has been one hell of a struggle but I've definitely learnt a couple of lessons along the way.

1) Don't put too much pressure on yourself
2) You'll get random bits of inspiration, just go with it. If you're uninspired don't write!
3) Your blog is your own to do with what you want

I have definitely put far too much pressure on myself over the years to try and keep up with the blogosphere, and yes its extremely hard. Hats off to anyone who is working full time, and keeps up with their blog on a daily/weekly basis. I have struggled massively since I got my own house, and I've definitely had days of feeling super inspired and written four, maybe even five blog posts, then gone weeks without writing a single word. I find my best work comes from random spurts of inspiration, so don't worry if you're feeling uninspired you'll find some random inspiration eventually - even if it does take a few weeks! My final words of wisdom are that your blog is your own to with what you please. Don't feel as though you have to stick to a certain niche when blogging, I always used to do this in my earlier blogging days and it completely killed off all of my interest in the blogging world. Slowly but surely I realised that you need to do you. If you want to blog about guinea pigs, you bloody blog about guinea pigs! (definitely feeling a Ru Paul can I get an amen? vibe right now...)

So basically what i'm trying to say in a nutshell is - you do you!

  1. It's definitely not easy! I am about to head into the working like and I am so scared of losing my overflowing creativity. Fingers crossed I am able to make the most out of the weekends :)

  2. Great point to never pressure yourself to stick to one niche! Blogging is supposed to be fun, after all! Love this umbrella installation by the way, is it the one in Bath, or elsewhere? :)

  3. Absolutely agree with this! Sometimes work and life get in the way. It's important not to put too much person yourself and just enjoy it.

  4. Great advice! I've recently started blogging again after years of being uninspired and I keep worrying already that I'm writing stuff that people aren't interested. It's like you said though - you do you. I'm gonna do me and keep going because if nobody else is reading it, at least I'm finding it entertaining!
